Here's an Overview of the Course.
I'm so excited that you decided to subscribe to How to Pick the Perfect College Crash Course.
I have been helping students get into college for 37 years. And for most of those years, I'm asked the same questions over and over again:
- Which college ranking site is the best?
- Can you help me figure out which major my child should pick?
- Searching for colleges is overwhelming. What can I do to make that easier?
- My child hates to write. How do I get them to write a great application essay?
- We keep visiting colleges, but none speak to my child. Where should we visit next?
After answering these questions hundreds (no—thousands!) of times, I decided to put together a free email course that explained precisely how to:
1) Search for Colleges Easily & Effectively;
2) Write an Essay Colleges Will Love;
3) Help My Child Pick the Right School & Major.
Here's a brief rundown of what we're going to cover:
Day 1: How to Search for Colleges Easily & Effectively
Question: What is the biggest myth that holds deserving college-bound students back from picking the perfect college?
Answer: Using the Target, Reach, and Safety School Method to help them pick the perfect college.
In this lesson, I'll explain why this myth exists and how it became such commonly accepted information. I will also discuss how to avoid that outdated search method, move in a different direction, and unlock the Statistical Match and Emotional Fit concept.
Day 2: College Planning vs Future Planning
Question: How do some students graduate with a degree they use in their careers while others get a degree they never use, even though they went to a "name brand" college?
Answer: Students who use their degrees in their careers have focused on the future after graduation, not just on going to college.
The good news is that this mistake is easy to solve.
All you have to do is focus on Future Planning.
In Day 2 of this email course, I'll explain what you need to know about Future Planning so that you can avoid the Graduation Gridlock & Useless Degree Syndrome and graduate on time with a Positive ROI Degree.
Day 3: Writing Memorable College Application Essays
Question: What is the key to writing college application essays?
Answer: Make the essays personal, not a list of your most significant accomplishments.
Think about it: If you are stuck in an elevator for hours, would you rather be stuck with someone who tells you about every medal and ribbon they have won, every close victory, and a list of all their A grades?
Or would you rather sit with someone who has an interesting story? A story about being just like everyone else until one day they weren't. There was a moment when something went wrong that changed their life and eventually made them doubt themselves until they took someone's advice and came out of the experience better.
Of course, you want to hear from the person who had the struggle and overcame it.
And that's what I am going to teach you.
However, there are some subtleties here that I want to explain to you because telling your life story is not always easy. So pay close attention to Day 3 because I don't want you to miss it.
Day 4: Are you a Doer or a Thinker? - The Easy Way to Selecting a Major
Question: How do you help teenagers who don't know what they want to do for their careers pick a major?
Answer: Focus on the field of study and how they learn more than trying to pick a specific major they know little about.
Picking a major is very challenging for teenagers.
Did you know what you wanted to do for the rest of your life when you were 17? However, knowing your major is less important than knowing your general field of study.
But more important than the field of study you are interested in is knowing whether you are a Doer or a Thinker.
Once you understand this about yourself, the college & major search takes on a new perspective.
I will walk you through everything you need to know to continue your journey, keep you from ending up with a useless college education, and reach your goal of picking a major with a positive ROI.
Day 5: Picking the Perfect College
Question: What is the most accurate way to pick the perfect college?
Answer: The best college is not the one written about on websites with the best ratings (that rating system was created by someone else for someone else). The best college is the one that is the best fit for you and will unlock transformational outcomes for years to come.
I will also show you the 3 fundamental mindset changes you need to make to be successful in the future.
These are small, simple changes you can make to your mindset about the game of Future Planning.
- Plan for the future beyond college graduation.
- Select a college that allows for change (you want a college with a growth, not a fixed mindset).
- Pick a college interested in your future transformation more than their immediate transactional and short-term financial gain.
Keep an eye out for Day 1 in your inbox tomorrow!
And, of course, if you have any questions along the way, feel free to reply to any of these emails, and I will do my best to respond to you directly.
See you tomorrow!
